Opening the Ajna Chakra

Vasuki with the Nagamani (The Serpents Ornament) on his head

To understand Vedic Space it is essential we open up our Ajna chakra, the 3rd Eye. In a conditioned state a human being is born with the Ajna chakra closed, and must go through a process for it to be opened. The pineal gland (3rd Eye) is covered by the false ego (The Ahamkara), before the 3rd eye can be opened it is necessary to give up our false ego. The false ego is ruled by Rahu, Rahu is the Head of the navagraha (Nine planets). In the Vedic system our earth isnt a planet, planet means wandering star. The wandering stars are Rahu, Ketu, Sun, Moon, Venus, Mercury, Mars Jupiter and Saturn. Rahu and Ketu represent our false head and false body (Our conditioned state) the seven remaining graha represent and control the seven chakras within the body. Mars controls the Muladhara, The Moon controls the Swadhisthana, the Sun controls the Manipura, Venus the Ananhata (Heart), Mercury the Vishuddha, Jupiter the Ajna and Saturn the Sahasrara. The Anahata is the Sat-kona and is where the soul is seated.

The seven chakras (Wheels) within the body

The Ajna chakra ruled by Jupiter (Brihaspati) is how we understand and experience ‘Space” . The Ajna chakra is our Spatial awareness. While in a conditioned state our spatial awareness is limited to the gross/physical dimension. Opening the Ajna leads to a deep awareness of the geometric Sub-dimension.

There are many spiritual practises that open our Ajna chakra and awaken our Kundalini, Kundalini meaning “coiled”. The principle being we have a Snake coiled/sleeping in our Muladhara chakra and in order to open the 3rd Eye, that Snake needs to be awakened.

Opening the 3rd Eye with Sacred Geometry (Sat-Kona)

Before we start we need to understand that the Ajna chakra will not open unless there is a conscious effort to give up our False Ego, currently the pineal gland is covered by the Ahamkara, so if the Ahamkara isnt given up the process below will not work.

Bhagavad Gita 18.61

The Supreme Lord is situated in everyone’s heart, O Arjuna, and is directing the wanderings of all living entities, who are seated as on a machine, made of the material energy.

The living entity is seating on a machine, a Yantra, this Yantra is the Sat-kona. The process of opening the 3rd Eye is embedded within the Sat-kona.

To begin the process you will need a Square/ruler and Compass and sufficient paper.

The process begins by drawing the Sat-kona and the cosmic serpent. The Sat-kona representing the Yantra we are seated on and the cosmic serpent representing our false head.

  1. Draw the seven intersecting circles of the Seed of Life (Sat-kona), then add a circle either side (left and right) to summon the cosmic serpent.
The False Head

2. Cut the head, (draw lines) as shown below. Take both of the Snakes eyes and place them as shown, these two circles are the nodes of the Moon, Rahu and Ketu. Rahu rules Aquarius, the 11th House. To understand the houses and the zodiac signs go here.

The Nodes of the Moon/Mind Rahu and Ketu

3. It is these Nodes we are trying to remove. Rahu being the False Ego the Head of the Snake and Ketu being the False Body. Rahu and Ketu are shadow planets and move anticlockwise in the sky, they are the cause of the Lunar and Solar eclipse. In our conditioned state Rahu is “Stealing the nectar” from our pineal gland.

4. By drawing two circles one within the nodes and the other without, we are able to draw the Pentagram (Panchakara) and the inverted Pentagram. These two pentagrams represent the conscious and subconscious worlds. The false head and false body. I have also added Shiva’s Tripundra, the coils of the snake. Lord Shiva rules the Ahamkara along with Lord Ananta.

Rahu and Ketu

5. When we are born we are sealed within a false ego and false body. That Karmic seal is controlled by Saturn or Lord Shani the Lord of Karma. Saturn rules both Aquarius and Capricorn, Kumba and Makara, Makara is said to be the head of the Zodiac S.B 5.21.3. In Vedic astrology Makara is the crocodile fish. The Makara are the guardians of space. The Makara are very powerful and represent supreme authority, it is natural to feel fear in their presents.

6. As we are working in layers and it will be confusing to overlay everything on top of each other for now put aside the nodes and redraw the snakes head and add the makara as shown below.

The Makara, the Head of he Zodiac

7. Now adjust the compass to line up with the inner eye of the snake and draw a circle, this circle is the Uttarayana, the northern path of the Sun, see the Movements of the Sun for more info on the Northern and Southern path of the Sun. After drawing the uttarayana “Cut” the snakes head as we did before. Also draw in the Sat-kona lightly to get the “Makara lines”. Using the pivot points on the Makara lines draw the Eye as shown. (Keep the compass set to the Uttara circle). This Eye is the Ajna, the 3rd Eye.

8. Flip the image anti clockwise to see Lord Shiva, the ruler of the 3rd Eye.

9. The Ajna Chakra is the flower of life, the Nagamani, it is the Sat-kona that triggers the 3rd Eye to open. Even though there is a lot more to learn, in essence this is the process of opening the 3rd Eye and the basis of Vedic geometry, the very same geometry that is present in the 5th canto measurements of the universe. By applying the above method to the 5th canto the entire Bhu-mandala universe can be unlocked and understood in a very deep way.
